December 31, 2007, 2:07 am New review added for Vegas Stakes - another Virtual Console game reviewed!
December 30, 2007, 4:41 am Believe it or not, we have a new review! Check out Actraiser! Feel free to disagree :)
May 4, 2007, 7:22 pm As you can see, we have some new ads flowing at the top as well as fixing the ugly looking google ads that the site was plagued with last time. I also recommend the google pack - it is extremely useful. The site may not be updated in a while due to lovely exams looming (last ever - yay!), but afterwards, there should be a few new reviews up. I also downloaded Lylat Wars for the N64 on the Wii - sooo much fun! Will return soon...
March 28, 2007, 9:17 pm I have created a new software package for my final year project related to sudoku! Check it out by visiting the sudoku link - It's written in C++ (thanks to wxWidgets) and supports net play!
March 26, 2007, 12:51 am The last measure to stop spam was implemented - submitting cheats and guides should both work ok now!
January 13, 2007, 1:49 am Added a redirect on the old http://members.lycos.co.uk/snesreviews site - if your address bar currently has that url in it, and there's an ad bar over to the right, it's not my fault, it's lycos' - if you just hit refresh, it will disappear. If you have visited the url snesreviews.co.uk directly, you won't be affected by this change.
January 11, 2007, 3:13 am As a sidenote, if any of you guys are looking for some webspace and/or want to help out the site, you can use this link go get webspace off servage - my provider: http://www.servage.net/?coupon=CUST19005.
There are ridiculously cheap (5.25 p/m) and incredibly fast, and they give you 2.1TB monthy transfer and 250GB webspace - that's bigger than my hard disk! and when you use that coupon code, you get some more... and so do I - hence my recommending it :).
January 11, 2007, 12:09 am OK - also just added those little links at the top now so you can browse through the complete history of the site - note the way it goes way back to November 2002 :). I can also noow announce we have a total of 64 Games! The largest snes review resource out there! I can also announce the wii rules and they are launching loads more classic games for download this quarter! woohoo!
January 10, 2007, 11:42 pm Added a few links to the links page - namely SNES Classics and Game Winners - Two excellent sites well worth a look!
January 6, 2007, 2:35 am At last, I have added 2 new reviews to the database On The Ball and R-Type 3 - first reviews in a long long time - viva la SNES! Also filled them in entirely using my new online system - didn't have to manually enter them into the database! You'll be happy to know I fixed a few bugs on the way (including the form getting wiped when you clicked on back!) Leave comments at will - remember - no sign-in is required!
January 4, 2007, 8:41 pm I have no idea why this page doesn't render properly in internet explorer with a wee gap over on the left... Solution - use Firefox :).
January 4, 2007, 6:05 pm Everything on the site since the re-think has now been tested and verified as working. You can now have absolute confidence that everything that you click on in here should work as you would expect! If it doesn't, please let me know!
January 4, 2007, 2:55 am OK - guides and cheats are now fixed! And in much less time than I thought! See how easy a nice schema can be to manage? :)
January 4, 2007, 1:54 am OK - set up a new backend to the website. Actually pretty much re-wrote the thing - really didn't have a clue when I started this site. Website's database schema has also completely changed!
Bad News:
- Guides and Cheats sections are currently down as they haven't been modified to work with the new schema yet
- Everything on the site has yet to be tested
Good News:
- You can now submit your own reviews to the site, even if the game has been submitted already!
- If you submit your own review, you can now upload your own graphics for the game
- You can now take a quick look at the most recent comments as well as links to their games using the "recent" link on the left menu
- You can look at your own reviews as soon as you submit them
- Craploads of changes have been made to the backend so it's now much easier to update! yay!
So now you have no excuse not for contributing to the cause! Go ahead and fill in a comment! After guides and cheats are fixed, next step is setting up user accounts for visitors so they can be e-mailed with responses to their suggestions etc! Stay tuned! Lots of fun to come!
January 2, 2007, 12:00 am Ok guys - major overhaul of the way comments work - you now cannot enter comments unless you enter a correct verification code - should help out spamming immensely. Also had lots of fun trying to export from the old flat-file system I had hacked together to a database issue. So currently comments and votes etc all work (and have also been changed to not be in the primary table which had gotten very crowded. I plan on adding user accounts shortly as well), but submitting your own reviews won't work for now, should be repaired shortly. Sorry about the delay - a lot of these updates are a change of approach so they need to be put in place properly. Cheers for staying with us!
December 31, 2006, 12:00 am Hi guys - bloody spammers have spread to the contact me forms so I have said enough is enough - i'm giving the site a bit of a shakeup code-wise - it won't change the appearance any (hopefully) but while I'm fixing it, the site may take notions of not working - sorry about that - i'll let you know when it's finished...
October 27, 2006, 12:00 am It's just one thing after another! this year at uni is seriously hectic! Took some time out there now though to try and fix the problem with everybody spamming the guestbook! Hopefully this will at least slow the onslaught! The change is in the way in which the verification code is being printed. Sorry no new reviews yet but they will come in their tens very soon (believe it or not) in preparation for the greatest console to date (I'm sure) - the Wii! It's about time somebody put fun and originality back into gaming! I really can't wait! It provides the opportunity to play snes games online legitimately! Now THAT'S innovation, as well as a refreshing alternative to "ooohh - lets make the games all super smooth and realistic". Bomberman didn't need that. And the worms series has proven that the transition to 3D should not always be embraced with open arms! Anyway, hopefully I'll not get spammed any more (I'm sent an e-mail every time one of you guys sign the guestbook!)
April 30, 2006, 12:00 am I really cant wait to get my hands on this after the exams are over. Just so you guys know, I've also bought a few other domains which I may well be plugging later on in the year. Ideas include an online proxy service, a free software site (none of that shareware crap), and a shameless, money making site (I'm just curious to see if it works). The domains I bought are freewebproxy.co.uk, hippysoftware.co.uk and cashtalks.co.uk ( well I think they're cool! ;) ). I was also thinking of some kind of file sharing system which people could use, similar to i-drive. I know the market is saturated but I think there's always room on the internet for somebody who wants to do anything for free :). Also submitted by final farewal to snesreviews.lycos.co.uk today as I put up the big far "we have moved" speil. I wish I could say I was sorry but after all, they are the ones who booted be off the top spot on google :(. I havent gotten a test to see if everything is 110% working but in about a month, everything will be working with interest! until next time, folks. p.s. If you would like to advertise on this site, click on the little link on the left saying Advertise Here - the folks there will set you up. I quite like the work ethic they seem to have been founded on. They are also the suppliers of the pretty new links up above (if you don't like the colour, let me know).
April 27, 2006, 12:00 am Guestbook is not operational - if any of you guys are watching, please sign it to let me know :).
April 20, 2006, 12:00 am Been a while... The site has now been resurrected with a new host! hurrah! Also went to the bother of buying the snesreviews.co.uk domain which should hopefully start forwarding to here soonish! Nobody will see this as of yet because I haven't oficially moved yet. Reason for moving is that lycos messed about so much with ads, popups and frame that I stopped getting listed in google and my hits went to hell. For this reason, I have moved servers. I have also written reviews that haven't been uploaded yet and are unlikely to be uploaded until after my exams - at which point I will upload like crazy! After all, I need to jump on the bandwagon for when the SNES classics are playable again on the new Nintendo console! So the page will sit silently here for a while until I have tested out most of the stuff here to see if it works on the new server, then I will put it on google and hopefully it's re-rise to glory will begin! Plan is: - Get the site working the way it was before
- Give the site a bit of a cleanup - maybe (gasp) introduce a font that isn't times new roman.
- Get a new forum up and running - the last site used lycos' forum
- Set up a mailing list so those who are really keen can be told when updates have happened, people have replied to their threads etc
- Write loadsa new reviews to give the site more beef
- Give the site a structural overhal - maybe changing its appearence a little bit again (although I like it the way it is!)
So wish me luck guys - with uni and work, I'm gonna need it :)
