Starts Starts off with Lucca, a friend of the main character Crono, creating a time machine, that she shows Crono at a fair. Marle, a girl Crono just met, is sucked into it and thrown into the past, and of course Crono goes after to save her. After this the story twists and turns in a truly enjoyable way in that you always want to know what happens next, and that's the beauty of this time-traveling Rpg, you get engrossed into the story, and it never lets you go, even in the end you are left with questions, which the sequel Chrono Cross exploits. During your mishaps in time, you come across a powerful creature, Lavos, that destroys the Earth in the future, and so you travel throughout time to stop this from happening. A beautiful, original and memorable storyline that even today is a landmark in Rpg's.
Chrono Trigger is in my view one of the greatest Rpgs on the snes, I love everything in it and the story mainly. You get a nostalgic feeling finishing it your first time, and with the sequel Chrono Cross already released on ps1, that nostalgic feeling goes on and on. Everything in Chrono Trigger is great, although the graphics are a bit dated by todays standards, it broke the ground way back on the snes. Additionaly, Chrono Trigger was re-released on the ps1 in the "Final Fantasy: Chronicles" with additional FMV's, although its hard to beat the original. Highly recommended Rpg to play, even to those who aren't into Rpg's.

Graphics
9/10
Back in 1995, Chrono Trigger broke the grounds in Rpg graphics, every background suited its part in the story, the characters and their animations were great. The graphics are of course dated, but it gives that retro feel to it.
Difficulty
8/10
With 8 playable characters, all with different traits and techniques to learn, you keep going back to learn all of them. There are also 4 possible endings, I believe, depending on different paths you take in the game, so getting them all is additional replay value.
Sound
10/10
Superb music which suits every scenario, and ones you wish to listen to time and time again. Composed by the genius Yasunori Mitsuda, who is renowned for almost all the Final Fantasy music, the soundtrack is one of the best you can get on the snes.
Playability
10/10
Chrono trigger is very original in its Battle system. Square broke away from their tried, tested and loved in depth menu system and random battles in Chrono Trigger, all the monsters where on the screen, and you could choose whether to fight or not in most cases. The battle system itself was the first time square tried their ATB, which they later perfected in Final Fantasy 7, (active time battle) in which the order of fighting was not determined by "my turn, your turn, mine after, so on so forth" but by how fast the time bar was filled. For example, my Ayla at the end of the game had such a fast time bar, that she could get in 2-3 attacks and the others were still dragging along!

on December 4, 2004, 6:51 pm > Nobuo Uematsu and not Yasunori Mitsuda composed most of the Final Fantasy Music. However, Yasunori Mitsuda is a great composer in his own right.

on June 15, 2005, 9:37 pm This was maybe the only RPG which I really got in to. Maybe due to my friend who is a rela fan of the series.
The game is somehow a bit too exciting because of the long intervals between the places where yuo can heal your "troops" and the hard "boss-enemies".
I never finished the game. I think it was because I got bored, but it still is a good game.

on August 1, 2005, 7:12 pm A definate hit by all RPG standards! Chrono Trigger has all the makings of an epic RPG, however Final Fantasy III is still the better out of the Nintendo RPGS. But if you're looking for something different, Chrono Trigger is the game for you
Posted by: Me on October 23, 2007, 3:31 am One of the greatest games ever made, and an RPG classic. I would have given it closer to a 9.8 or 9.9... maybe a 10... depends on how conservative and picky I'm being.
