Game: Street Fighter 2 Turbo | Developers: Capcom | Year: 1993 | Maximum No. Players: 2
*Capcom staff*: "Right lads this street fighter 2 console version has sold a crapload of copies and we want to build on this financially, what are we gonna do?"
*They all reply in spontaneous song*: "Give them the same bloody game, let them be the bosses and, seeing as we're not even giving any new characters, lets speed it up to keep the punters happy."
And they did.
This is the exact same bloody game speeded up. Let you be the bosses all you like, ryu and ken are still better than any of em! Being the bosses is all well and good, even if vega can magically climb onto air, but it doesnt really constitude change. These characters with exact same controls esisted in the first one - you just werent able to control them.
So after the novelty of being the bosses wears off, you turn your attention towards the other aspect of the game - the turbo function. Now this sadly brings to your attention just how badly you've been ripped off. IT'S JUST THE SAME BLOODY GAME ONLY FASTER!! Now this is the opposite of fun. This is nuf. Okay - so to the cheat and after a few efforts, you too can increase the speed to 10 stars! hang on though, isn't this the same only FASTER STILL? Bugger!
In it's favour, the graphics seem to look a little bit more like the arcade version, there are a few new moves for the players to make them at least seem to put up a fight to ryu and ken. There is also the opportunity to finish as a boss and have an evil ending which is always fun. This game IS (albeit marginally) better than SF2 but it will not score as highly because it's not as big a mould-breaker. if you dont have SF2, get this. If you already have SF2, think very carefully about whether or not you want to purchase this one.
Graphics
9/10
More arcadey graphics and turbo runs exceptionally fast here. The character close ups look more mean than in SF2.
Difficulty
8/10
It's not any harder really than its predecessor - its just faster but sure thats not much of a difference once you realise its just the same things in a faster rhythm.
Sound
7/10
I think the sound actually went downhill in this one but i think it was intentional. either way, i dont like it!
Playability
9/10
Very playable and can be a lot of fun in two player - just not good enough to be a sequel (which i suppose is why it's not called street fighter 3).

on June 7, 2005, 11:36 am In fairness the only reason this version was released was to combat the same game being released on the Mega Drive at the same time. The SNES version imo was far better.
