Game: Championship Pool   |   Developers: Bitmasters, Mindscape   |   Year: 1993   |   Maximum No. Players: 8

I remember playing the equivalent to this game on the gameboy a long, long time ago. I remember enjoying it a lot. So I went and got my hands on the SNES version, foolishly thinking to myself that the lovely people at mindscape will haverevamped the physics and graphics of it for the snes. Much to my horror, the game pretty much looked exactly like the bloody gameboy version. Either the gameboy did a ridiculously good port, or else the snes just couldnt be bothered making a proper game. Logic dictates the second one.

There are a few differences though. Well, two i think. Namely that there is a single, almost 3d-like viewpoint you can adopt when playing the game. This is, of course, a lump of crap.

A gameboy has 2 buttons on it - you would expect this version to make use of the joypad. But lo and behold it doesnt. Bloody scum! The physics, like the gameboy, are accurate but the aim mover seems just far too sensitive to get a decent shot lined up.

If you want a decent pool simulator, go get your hands on a pc and the virtual pool series or jimmy white - pool's just too difficult-to-line up a game to not have a mouse to give you some sense of control over a shot. Sorry about the lack of english there but it was the first way it came out of me head! If i were you, i'd stay away from this one.

Bloody awful. Looks lke the snes crashed and rebooted in safe mode with this cartridge inside.
Difficulty

8/10
Very hard but unrealistically so - just a formula on computer's behalf to make balls disappear - you never see the computer take a shot.

Get it off!! Get it off!
Playability

4/10
This game is playable? If you want the game, get it on the gameboy - it's fun as something to pass an incredibly small amount of time on a limited machine. At the time, the snes was far from limited.
